I am so looking forward to working with you over the coming seasons as your new Musical Director.
We have two excellent works from the Baroque era for our winter concert and, in truth, I think they are great works for any time of year- not to mention, a jolly good sing! Many of you will already know the Vivaldi, and it is unquestionably a work that is always worth revisiting. As for the Purcell, it is a work very characteristic of the period and will fit well with Vivaldi, whilst demonstrating why Purcell was the greatest English composer until the arrival of Elgar nearly 200 years later.
During this term, we will also start work on Carmina Burana which we will be performing in the spring. One is hard pushed to think of a choral work with more character- it's just musical fireworks from beginning to the end. I hope you will not only join us for this, but also bring a friend, or two, or three. We will need a big choir for this, and there is nothing more exciting or rewarding than tackling a work of this magnitude together with lots of people in a really massive choir.
I am also delighted to tell you that we will be joined by Jackie Kieswetter on the piano for our rehearsals.
Finally, please let Carolyn know if you are coming, so that we can ensure there are enough biscuits etc for the evening (we mustn't neglect food!)
As I said, I am so looking forward to working with you and I look forward to seeing you on Monday 11th September at Kindermusik at 7:45pm.
See you there,
